Eye Condition Groups
We run dedicated eye condition groups for those affected by Glaucoma and Age-related Macular Degeneration. These are well attended groups which provides information about the latest eye health treatments and an opportunity to swap experiences.
Glaucoma Group
The group has been meeting at Bedford Hall since 2012, alternate months, sharing the early years with Croydon University Hospital. Now the Croydon Eye Unit is managed by Moorfields.
Our group discusses many topics that are important to our members:
- Drop usage and the importance of Drops.
- Understanding Glaucoma as a life long condition and the importance of a regular trip to the opticians as this eye disease has no symptoms until well into damaging the eye and its sight.
- Understanding alternative surgical treatments and other eye conditions associated with Glaucoma.
There is always tea and biscuits and on special occasions cake! Our tea money goes to the International Glaucoma Association helping ongoing much needed research
The Glaucoma Group meets the 1st Monday of every month.
Macular Group
We meet regularly, monthly at Croydon Vision. Topics discussed range from the latest cruise by a member, to personal events and have probed very humorous to the group when shared.
We have enjoyed professional speakers on low vision and business with their goods. We share concerns and act as buddies when members are to undergo surgeries.
We enjoy quizzes, cream teas, Easter bonnet events and out yearly meal out at the Masonic Lodge.
Many eye conditions can result in Macular problems. A good varied diet, watching your weight and blood pressure and exercise within your ability is vital to good eye health.
Good eye protection from the sun and environment is also a must.
The Macular Group meets the 2nd Monday of every other month.
