Croydon Vision is a community-focused organisation dedicated to improving the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals in Croydon and surrounding areas. We provide a wide range of services and support to empower visually impaired individuals to lead fulfilling lives.

Position Description:

As a Volunteer Driver, you will play a crucial role in our organisation’s mission by providing safe and reliable transportation services to our members. Your commitment to helping those in need will ensure that individuals can access essential services and community resources. At times, you may be asked to perform duties such as helping a member physically find their way to the venues you will drive them to after parking the vehicle or lead them to different groups amongst other requirements. We also request our volunteers to participate in regular meetings and feedback sessions.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely and punctually drive members to Croydon Vision and other destinations as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean and well-maintained vehicle to ensure the safety and comfort of members.
  • Provide assistance to members getting in and out of the vehicle as needed, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Be courteous and respectful while interacting with members, offering a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
  • Plan efficient routes to ensure on-time arrivals at destinations and to optimize the number of members served during each trip.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and safety regulations while driving.
  • Imperative not be under any influence of drug and alcohol whilst driving and willingness to perform drug and alcohol tests as required.
  • Be responsible for vehicle checks including fuel levels as directed prior to driving off, when returning the vehicle and advising line manager of issues.
  • Ensure Fuel cards are properly stored as per Croydon Vision’s regulations

Skills and Experience:

  • Valid D1 (Preferred) and B1 driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Compassion and a commitment to helping others.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dependability and punctuality.
