Croydon Vision is a community-focused organisation dedicated to improving the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals in Croydon and surrounding areas. We provide a wide range of services and support to empower visually impaired individuals to lead fulfilling lives.
Position Description:
As a Kitchen Assistant and Group Volunteer at Croydon Vision, you will play a crucial role in supporting our mission by assisting in the operations of our kitchen from Monday to Thursday, between 9:30 am and 15:00 pm. Your efforts will directly impact the well-being and independence of blind and partially blind individuals in our community. You will also be requested to help with tea and coffee preparations and serving them as needed to our members. At times, you may be asked to perform duties such as helping a member find their way or lead them to different groups amongst other requirements. We also request our volunteers to participate in regular meetings and feedback sessions.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the cook in preparing ingredients, chopping vegetables, and other food preparation tasks as needed.
- Ensure the kitchen is kept clean, organized, and sanitary at all times. This includes washing dishes, cleaning countertops, and maintaining kitchen equipment.
- Help in portioning and packaging meals for distribution to our members.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines and protocols to ensure the safety of yourself and others in the kitchen.
Skills and Experience:
- Basic cooking and food preparation skills (previous kitchen experience is a plus but not required).
- Excellent hygiene practices and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.
- Ability to work well in a team and take direction from the kitchen manager and cook.
- Punctuality and reliability in fulfilling your volunteer commitments.
