I am the Digital Transformation Lead at Croydon Vision. My role is to help ensure that technology supports our members in living more independent and confident lives. I provide training on accessible software and equipment, tailoring support to each person’s individual needs and abilities so they can make the most of the tools available to them.

Transport & Facilities Officer

I am the longest serving team member at Croydon Vision and it is a place that brings me much joy over 16 years.

My main role is to ensure our vehicles are checked daily and are clean and running smoothly. I also ensure members are able to access the vehicle in a safe manner.

I enjoy chatting to the members and believe it is very important to build a positive and trusting relationship with them. Many of our members rely on us to transport them to and from Croydon Vision; to attend activities and to stay for lunch. We are often the lifeline for so many members.

Development Lead

Healthcare research and quality of life optimisation are the heart of my practice.

I serve Croydon Vision across pillars with a primary focus on four domains: managing volunteers and work experience students, research and insights, business and service development, and partnerships and engagement. My work is underpinned by project management skills, cross-sector strategy and business management experience, governance, and reflective practice.

My love for service improvement fuels my learning journey. Current CPD includes sensory impairment research, asset management, sustainability, and machine-human collaboration.

Do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to become a volunteer, get involved in research, and/or to let us know how I/we can do more and do better. Look forward to hearing from you!

Chef

Since starting at Croydon Vision 2018, I have worked with my team to transform lunch service. It brings me much joy to see many more people having lunch and socialising at Bedford Hall, I love it!

My main duties include cooking tasty food for our members, supporting members through their activities and liaising with volunteers to provide an excellent service.

We cater for all dietary needs and offer an inclusive menu. All food is cooked fresh on the premises using seasonal ingredients wherever possible.

A key part of my role is making sure that food hygiene standards are met in addition to health and safety requirements.

Nicola Newman

Nicola Newman

Chief Executive Officer

I am the Chief Executive Officer of Croydon Vision and a lifelong resident (and champion) of Croydon, committed to ensuring that blind and partially sighted people across our borough can thrive with confidence, connection and independence.

My career has been shaped by leading transformational culture change, strengthening organisational systems, and building high performing, values led teams, experience that I bring wholeheartedly to my role at Croydon Vision.

Since joining in January 2025, I have led a full organisational review of financial structures and fundraising practice. I believe leadership should be open, collaborative and transparent, especially when it comes to finance, decision making and organisational priorities.

I work to create an environment where staff, volunteers and members are trusted with information, encouraged to contribute ideas, and empowered to take meaningful ownership of their work.
My focus is on driving long term sustainability, strengthening partnerships, and contributing to a culture where innovation, inclusion and creativity can flourish, ensuring that together, we can go further and create lasting impact.

Membership and Facilities Lead

I joined Croydon Vision in 2023 as Membership Officer and now serve as Membership & Facilities Lead. I’m often one of the first points of contact for new members, helping them feel welcome and supported from the moment they join. I work closely with individuals to ensure they make the most of our services and activities, and I monitor members’ progress so we can tailor support to their needs.

Alongside this, I oversee our programme of activities and organise special events and excursions that bring our community together. I also support our Advice & Advocacy, WAG, and Children & Young People services, working collaboratively across teams to provide joined-up support.
I share responsibility for the care of our buildings, helping to ensure they remain safe, accessible and welcoming spaces for everyone who visits Croydon Vision.

Outreach Lead (VI)

I am the Outreach Lead at Croydon Vision and have worked here since 2022. As someone who is severely sight impaired myself, I’m passionate about helping other visually impaired people live independently and confidently. My role involves visiting members at home, giving talks, representing Croydon Vision in the community, and delivering training and workshops for both visually impaired and sighted audiences.

Through home visits, I ensure members understand the services available to them, particularly those who cannot travel to us. I then work with colleagues within Croydon Vision and partner organisations to make sure each person receives the support they need.

I am currently leading a London Marathon Foundation–funded project to bring sports and physical activity to our members, aiming to deliver over 1,000 hours of activity across two years. Alongside this, I run a weekly cooking class using assistive technology for blind people, where members build confidence, learn new skills, and enjoy social connection through food.
