Croydon Vision is a community-focused organisation dedicated to improving the lives of blind and visually impaired individuals in Croydon and surrounding areas. We provide a wide range of services and support to empower visually impaired individuals to lead fulfilling lives.

Position Description:

As a Volunteer Driver Assistant, you will support our drivers in providing transportation services to our members. Your role is essential in ensuring the comfort, safety, and efficiency of each trip. During the journey, this volunteer position requires a helpful and supportive demeanour, as well the inclination to engage in conversations with our members. At times, you may be asked to perform duties such as helping a member physically find their way to the venues they have been driven to or lead them to different groups amongst other requirements. We also request our volunteers to participate in regular meetings and feedback sessions.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist members with getting in and out of the vehicle, including those with mobility challenges.
  • Provide a friendly and supportive presence during the trip, engaging in conversations.
  • Ensure that members are securely seated and that their seatbelts are fastened.
  • Help members with their belongings and any necessary equipment (e.g., walkers, wheelchairs).
  • Assist the Volunteer Driver/Driver in navigating and reading maps or GPS devices if needed.

Skills and Experience:

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to assist clients with getting in and out of the vehicle.
  • Dependability and punctuality.
